Neel Acharya went missing on January 28, prompting his mother, Gauri Acharya, to seek assistance through social media platforms. In a heartfelt post, she mentioned that Neil was last seen when an Uber driver dropped him outside the university. The Consulate of India in Chicago responded promptly, assuring cooperation and assistance in the search.
However, the situation took a grim turn when the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office reported that Neel Acharya’s lifeless body was discovered outside a lab on the university premises. The university’s head of computer science, Chris Clifton, confirmed the tragic news in an email to faculty and students, expressing condolences to Acharya’s friends and family. The cause of his death remains under investigation.
This sorrowful incident comes on the heels of another heartbreaking event earlier in the week. Vivek Saini, an Indian student, fell victim to a brutal attack in Lithonia, Georgia, USA. A homeless man ruthlessly stabbed Saini multiple times with a hammer, and the horrifying incident was captured on video, circulating widely on social media. The accused assailant has been apprehended, and on January 24, Vivek Saini’s body was returned to his grieving family.
