Union Home Minister Amit Shah Convenes Meeting on Naxalists; Chief Ministers Gather in Delhi

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Responds to Allegations

New Delhi | October 06, 2023: In a crucial development aimed at addressing the escalating Naxalism issue, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting in New Delhi. The gathering saw the participation of Chief Ministers from seven to eight states, coming together to discuss the pressing matter. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who was among the attendees, also seized the opportunity to address allegations made by Uddhav Thackeray.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Shinde expressed his dismay over the unscrupulous actions witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically highlighting an appalling incident in Nanded. He remarked, “The events in Nanded during the pandemic were truly unfortunate and painful. However, what is even more regrettable is the politicization of these events by those with a penchant for exploiting the miseries of others.”

Chief Minister Shinde further elaborated on the dire circumstances during the COVID-19 crisis, alleging, “Some individuals resorted to profiting from the pandemic, whether it was embezzling funds intended for the deceased, inflating prices for essential supplies like khichdi, or manipulating oxygen supply chains. In light of these allegations, it is only fitting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) intervenes to ensure transparency and justice.”

Addressing the ongoing investigation into the Nanded case, Chief Minister Shinde assured, “No one will escape the scrutiny of the government. We are committed to uncovering the truth.” He juxtaposed the actions of his government during the pandemic with those who remained confined to their homes, saying, “While we were on the frontlines, donned in PPE kits, and tirelessly serving our communities, some chose to remain sheltered indoors. The world has not witnessed such leadership.”

Taking a direct swipe at Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister Shinde stated, “Thackeray was comfortably ensconced at home, perhaps counting money. His true character was laid bare during the pandemic, and the questions regarding the allocation of funds within the Mumbai Municipal Corporation demand answers. Even a local corporator cannot operate from the comfort of their home, so those who do should refrain from lecturing us. ‘Ek Phool and Ek Haaf’ should not be the ones offering us lessons.”

This meeting in Delhi signifies a concerted effort by the Union and State governments to tackle the Naxalism issue while also addressing the allegations of corruption and malfeasance that have come to light during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period.
