Union Cabinet Increases Ujjwala Beneficiary Subsidy for LPG Cylinders

Ujjwala Beneficiary Subsidy Raised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 for LPG Cylinders

New Delhi | October 4, 2023 :In a significant move aimed at providing relief to the common man, the Union Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has announced an increase in the subsidy for beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana. Effective immediately, the subsidy has been raised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per LPG cylinder.

This decision comes on the heels of the recent festive announcements made by the cabinet during Rakshabandhan and Onam, which saw a reduction of Rs. 200 in the price of LPG cylinders. At that time, the price of a cylinder was reduced from Rs. 1100 to Rs. 900.

Prior to this subsidy increase, beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana were already receiving significant financial assistance, as they were able to purchase a cylinder for just Rs. 700. With the new subsidy adjustment, Ujjwala beneficiaries will now be able to procure LPG cylinders for a mere Rs. 600.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur expressed the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens. He stated that these measures were part of the government’s ongoing efforts to make essential commodities more affordable for all.

It’s important to note that just a month ago, the government had slashed the prices of domestic gas cylinders, providing further respite to consumers. As of October 1, a 14.20 kg domestic gas cylinder is priced at Rs. 902.50 in Mumbai, Rs. 903 in Delhi, Rs. 929 in Kolkata, and Rs. 918.50 in Chennai.

The decision to increase the subsidy for Ujjwala beneficiaries is expected to bring cheer to millions of households across the country, making clean cooking fuel more accessible and affordable to those who need it most.
