Tensions Rise as Shiv Sena’s Shinde Faction Seeks Representation in Mumbai Cabinet

Mumbai | 11 Aug, 2023: In a significant turn of events within the Shiv Sena, discontent is growing within the Shinde group due to the recent cabinet expansion. While the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has secured ministerial positions, the Shinde group finds itself without any representation, leading to a notable sense of dissatisfaction among its members. The way the group is being managed has come under scrutiny, and maintaining unity within the faction poses a considerable challenge.

A key development in this saga involves 40 office bearers from the Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction in Kandivali East, Charkop, and Malad, who have taken a bold step by collectively submitting their resignations through a letter addressed to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Prominent figures within the faction, including Chiranjeev of Shiv Sena and former minister Ramdas Kadam, along with Shiv Sena secretary Siddhesh Kadam, have decided to step down from their positions. Following this move, the Chief Minister took the significant step of suspending the appointment of Shiv Sena Secretary Siddesh Kadam to the newly assigned role.

The upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections have added another layer of complexity to this situation. Office bearers from various regions, including Kandivali East, Malad, and Charkop, have directly communicated their dissatisfaction to the Chief Minister. Their primary demand is that the head of department number two should be a representative with a Marathi background. In response, the Chief Minister has given his assurance that a decision regarding this matter will be made within the next two days.

The absence of ministerial positions for the Shinde group in the cabinet expansion has been a major point of contention. As the NCP secures important posts, the Shinde faction has been left without a single ministerial role, leading to widespread displeasure within the group. The challenge now is to address these concerns and maintain the unity of the Shinde faction as it navigates this period of political uncertainty.
