Mumbai | August 16, 2023:  As the political landscape in Maharashtra remains abuzz with the power struggle between veteran politicians Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, an unexpected subplot is emerging within the Shiv Sena party. Sources reveal that while the spotlight has been on the Pawar clash, there are intriguing behind-the-scenes activities within the Shiv Sena, particularly involving Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his faction.

In recent developments, a notable shift in allegiance has raised eyebrows. Most Shiv Sena MLAs who were previously aligned with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have reportedly distanced themselves from his leadership. Amidst the backdrop of this evolving political equation, rumors are rife about the simmering political chemistry between Shinde’s faction and the BJP souring following the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) rise to power.

This dynamic has led to speculation that disenchanted MLAs from the Shinde group are seeking to rebuild bridges with the party’s founding leader, Uddhav Thackeray. On the occasion of Uddhav Thackeray’s birthday on July 27, a group of MLAs from the Shinde faction allegedly attempted to arrange a meeting to extend their wishes. These MLAs, eager to convey their regards to Thackeray, reportedly contacted his residence, Matoshree.

However, sources indicate that Uddhav Thackeray declined the meeting with these MLAs, citing moral grounds. According to insiders from the Thackeray camp, the party leader opted to avoid such interactions due to the ongoing political turbulence.

Contradicting this version of events, Uday Samant, an MLA associated with the Shinde group, stated that no attempts were made by their faction to meet Uddhav Thackeray. In fact, Samant revealed that the tables had turned, with 10 MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray’s faction reaching out to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to convey birthday wishes. A surprising twist is that six of these MLAs are reportedly set to switch their allegiance to the Shinde faction in the near future.

Uday Samant emphasized the importance of ethical conduct in politics, noting that the principles of integrity should guide political interactions. He also highlighted the loyalty and faith many MLAs continue to hold towards Eknath Shinde’s leadership.

Uday Samant recalled that during the tenure when he was aligned with Uddhav Thackeray, he had no opportunities to meet or engage in discussions with the party leader. This perceived lack of access led to a rift, resulting in a revolt by 40 MLAs. These MLAs, who have maintained their trust in Eknath Shinde’s vision and leadership, have now become a key element in the political dynamics of the state.

With the recent inclusion of Ajit Pawar in the government, Uday Samant interpreted this move as a recognition of Eknath Shinde’s appeal and development-focused policies.

As the political drama continues to unfold, all eyes are on the evolving relationships within the Shiv Sena party and how these intricate developments might shape the future of Maharashtra politics.
