Mumbai | September 05, 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Selection Committee has unveiled the highly anticipated Team India lineup for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In a press conference held in Sri Lanka, BCCI Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar, and Captain Rohit Sharma disclosed the 15-member squad that will represent India on the world stage.

Out of the 17 players from the Asia Cup 2023 squad, only 15 have made the cut for the World Cup. Notably, young talents Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Verma have been left out, while Sanju Samson has been included as a reserve wicketkeeper.

The World Cup squad features a balanced composition with 5 batsmen, 2 wicket-keeper batsmen, 4 all-rounders, 1 wrist spinner, and 3 fast bowlers. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will spearhead the batting order, followed by Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order. The wicket-keeping duties will be shared by Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.

In the all-rounder department, Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Akshar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja will bring their dual batting and bowling prowess to the team. The fast bowling lineup includes the likes of Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, while Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav will handle the spin responsibilities.

However, the most notable omission from the squad is the experienced trio of spinner R Ashwin, opener Shikhar Dhawan, and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Despite earlier statements from Captain Rohit Sharma suggesting that doors were open for all players, the selection committee decided not to include these three seasoned campaigners in the World Cup squad.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is set to take place in India, featuring a total of 10 teams competing in a round-robin format. Each team will play one match against the other nine, totaling 48 matches over 45 days at 10 venues. The tournament kicks off on October 5, with Team India facing Australia on October 8 in Chennai in their opening match.

Team India’s last league match will be against the Netherlands on Sunday, November 12, in Bangalore. The first and second semi-finals are scheduled for November 15 and 16, leading up to the grand final match on November 17.

With Rohit Sharma at the helm and a talented squad in place, all eyes are on Team India as they aim to clinch the prestigious ICC ODI World Cup on home soil.
