Pimpri Chinchwad Witnesses Power Play as NCP Divides: Sharad Pawar’s Faction Gears Up with New Leadership

Pimpri | September 17, 2023 : In a dramatic turn of events in Pimpri Chinchwad, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) finds itself divided into two distinct factions, each led by influential leaders, Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar. Pimpri Chinchwad, historically considered the stronghold of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is witnessing a seismic shift in political dynamics, as both Pawars vie for supremacy in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had previously held sway over Pimpri Chinchwad, transforming it into a political paradise under his leadership. However, his decision to break away from the NCP and align with the Shinde-Fadnavis government reshuffled the political deck. This breakaway led to a vertical split within the NCP, intensifying the power struggle between the two influential Pawars.

In response to these developments, Sharad Pawar’s faction wasted no time in making significant preparations within Pimpri Chinchwad. One of the pivotal moves was the appointment of Tushar Kamthe as the city president of the NCP, representing Sharad Pawar’s group.

Under Sharad Pawar’s leadership, the NCP has established its central office in Pimpri Chinchwad. This new central office reflects a strategic shift, emphasizing youth leadership. Tushar Kamthe’s appointment as the city president signifies the party’s intent to challenge Ajit Pawar’s faction in the region.

The appointment of Tushar Kamthe was officially announced by NCP State President Jayant Patil following a meeting held on Friday. This move symbolizes a firm commitment to strengthening Sharad Pawar’s faction within the city.

During the appointment ceremony, MLA Rohit Pawar, Working President of Youth NCP Ravikant Varpe, Regional President of Vidyarthi Sele Sunil Gavane, and City President of Youth Imran Sheikh were all present, showing solidarity with the new leadership.

Ajit Pawar’s decision to align with the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government further deepened the divide within the NCP. NCP City President Ajit Gavane pledged his support to Ajit Pawar’s group, leaving the post of city president for Sharad Pawar’s faction vacant.

Tushar Kamthe’s acceptance of the city president’s responsibility signals the beginning of a political campaign aimed at challenging Shankar Jagtap, BJP’s city president, and Ajit Gavane, the city president of the Nationalist Ajit Pawar group.

The power struggle between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar within Pimpri Chinchwad is poised to reshape the region’s political landscape. As both factions gear up for an intense political battle, the implications could extend to the broader political scenario, impacting the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government.
