Lonavala to Mumbai: Maratha Reservation Protest Continues Amidst Government Standoff

Protest Leader Challenges Government to Open Dialogue for Resolution

January 25, 2024: The ongoing Maratha reservation march, which recently reached Lonavala, has intensified as discussions with the delegation of officials failed to yield any resolution. The leader of the protest, Manoj Jarange Patil, expressed support for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and urged him, along with the Deputy Chief Ministers, to engage in meaningful discussions.

A delegation from the Divisional Commissioner of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar met with Jarange Patil, directing the protestors to redirect their march towards Mumbai for further deliberations. However, the initial talks did not lead to a breakthrough.

Jarange Patil, speaking to the media after the unsuccessful discussion, revealed that a larger government delegation is expected to meet with the protestors later in the evening. He emphasized that, so far, the authorities have only provided information, and substantive discussions are yet to take place.

Jarange Patil insisted on the necessity of the government coming forward for dialogue, stating that the decision to march towards Mumbai reflects the urgency to find a solution. He stressed that peaceful resolution falls under the government’s purview, not theirs. Jarange Patil highlighted the lack of closed-door discussions during the meeting with the delegation, emphasizing the need for open dialogue to reach a final solution.
