BJP Shuffles the Deck: Fresh Faces Dominate Final Candidate List for MP Assembly Election

MP Assembly Election | October 22, 2023: In a surprising turn of events for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election on October 22, 2023, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its final list of 92 candidates. The list has sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape as it surprisingly leaves out almost 30 existing Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), opting instead for fresh faces.

This unprecedented move has raised eyebrows, as it appears that the BJP is cutting the candidature of many of its sitting MLAs. The decision to snub nearly one-third of its incumbents in favor of new entrants showcases a bold strategy by the party.

What makes this development even more intriguing is the absence of any Member of Parliament (MP) in the list. The recent buzz regarding Union Minister Jyotiraditya Shinde’s potential nomination from Shivpuri has also been debunked as a mere rumor. BJP chose Devendra Kumar Jain to contest from Shivpuri, a constituency previously held by Yashodhara Raje Shinde, the mother-in-law of Jyotiraditya Shinde, who opted out of the race.

Notably, Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of Kailas Vijayvargiya, has been denied a candidacy. The party opted to nominate Virendra Raghuvanshi in place of Kolaras MLA Mahendra Yadav. Supporters of Jyotiraditya Shinde have managed to secure nominations in various constituencies, exemplifying a delicate balance of power within the party.

Mahendra Singh Sisodia, who made the switch from Congress to BJP, has been selected to run from Bamori. Shinde’s supporter, Jaipal Singh, has secured the candidature from the Ashoknagar constituency. In a further twist, former Congress MLA Sachin Birla has been fielded as the BJP candidate from the Badwah constituency.

The BJP’s surprising decision to cut short the political careers of many incumbent MLAs and its choice to forgo nominating an MP have added an unexpected layer of complexity to the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election. It remains to be seen how these strategic moves will play out in the political arena.
