Concerns Rise as India Witnesses Record Surge in JN.1

Spike in Infections and Three New Deaths Raise Alarms Across the Nation

Mumbai|31 Dec 2023: In a worrying turn of events, India is grappling with a significant surge in cases of the new corona variant, JN.1, just before the onset of the new year. The latest data from the Union Health Ministry reveals a startling 826 new cases of Corona reported in the country within the last 24 hours, marking the highest single-day increase in the last seven months.

Maharashtra tops the list with 134 new infections, followed closely by Karnataka with 131 cases. The severity of the situation is underscored by one reported death each in Bihar, Karnataka, and Kerala, bringing the total death toll to three. With this surge, the number of active Corona patients has surpassed the 4000 mark.

This sudden escalation in cases has created an atmosphere of anxiety in Debhar. The JN.1 variant, now wreaking havoc in the country, is responsible for the recent upswing in infections. The gravity of the situation is further emphasized by the fact that it has been seven months since India witnessed such a significant number of new Corona cases. The total number of cases now stands at 4,309, with 841 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

As the nation faces this renewed threat from the JN.1 variant, health authorities are on high alert. The Union Health Ministry urges citizens to adhere to safety protocols and vaccination drives to curb the spread of the virus. The rising numbers and the associated fatalities underscore the urgent need for collective efforts to combat the challenges posed by the evolving Corona landscape.
