Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Assures Maratha Reservation without Injustice

Mumbai|October 29, 2023: The fervent demand for Maratha reservation in the state has escalated, with Maratha community activists intensifying their protests. The situation has reached a point where leaders are being blocked by agitating Maratha protesters. Amidst this turmoil, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a discreet appearance at the Sri Siddhigiri Agricultural Science Center, Sri Siddhigiri Mahasansthan, Kolhapur, for the inauguration of the Siddhigiri Veterinary Aid Breeding Centre, Clinic, and Laboratory.

During this event, Chief Minister Shinde addressed the media, shedding light on the ongoing Maratha reservation issue that has gripped the state.

The Maratha community’s fervent demand for reservation has triggered widespread protests. Notably, Manoj Jarange Patil has initiated a hunger strike in Atarwali Sarati village, vowing to continue until the government takes a definitive stance on Maratha reservation. Jarange Patil’s determination is evident as he has even refused to consume medicinal water during his protest. Chief Minister Shinde seized the moment to make a significant announcement regarding the reservation matter.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conveyed the state government’s positive stance on the Maratha reservation issue, emphasizing the need for Manoj Jarange Patil to recognize this commitment. The government is deeply concerned about Jarange Patil’s well-being and is diligently working on the reservation matter, ensuring that it withstands legal scrutiny. Chief Minister Shinde commended the committee formed to address Maratha reservation, asserting its effective functioning.

Amidst the clamor for reservation, there is a distinct demand for granting OBC certificates to the Maratha community. OBC leaders have voiced their preference for keeping Maratha reservation separate from the OBC category. Chief Minister Shinde, speaking on this issue, assured that reservation would be provided without any injustice to any community. He also made a heartfelt appeal to Maratha youth, urging them not to resort to extreme measures such as suicide due to this ongoing issue.

As protests continue to rage in various parts of the state, political leaders find themselves thwarted from entering villages and roads until a resolution is reached on the reservation matter. Fearing the wrath of the protesters, leaders have had to cancel their scheduled programs. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in particular, has faced the brunt of the Maratha agitators.

Chief Minister Shinde’s covert visit to Kolhapur was an attempt to evade potential roadblocks and disruptions caused by the Maratha protesters. These protesters had planned to display black flags as a symbol of their discontent during the Chief Minister’s visit, but the police intervened, detaining those who sought to carry out this demonstration.
