Amit Shah Takes Center Stage in Maratha Reservation Issue: Talks to Begin in Delhi

Maratha Reservation Issue Moves to Delhi: Amit Shah Steps In

MUMBAI | November 02, 2023: With the Maratha reservation movement escalating in Maharashtra, efforts to find a solution at the state level have failed, prompting central-level involvement. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and second-ranking leader of the BJP, is set to play a crucial role in resolving the Maratha reservation issue. In a significant development, Shah has invited Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule to Delhi for discussions. The scheduled meeting at Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi at 3:30 pm is expected to focus on the Maratha reservation matter.

In some parts of the state, the Maratha reservation movement has taken a violent turn, with Maratha protesters setting fire to the houses of political leaders in Beed. In response to the escalating situation, Amit Shah contacted Devendra Fadnavis for a status update. Subsequently, the state government organized an all-party meeting in an attempt to quell the Maratha reservation agitation. Unfortunately, the meeting failed to yield a solution, as Manoj Jarange Patil, a prominent figure in the Maratha movement, remained steadfast in his hunger strike. During the all-party meeting held in Mumbai, Congress leaders urged the central government to intervene in resolving the Maratha reservation issue. The invitation extended by Amit Shah to Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrasekhar Bawankule to discuss the matter in Delhi has generated significant interest. Many are keen to see whether Amit Shah will provide guidance to Devendra Fadnavis to find a resolution to the ongoing Maratha reservation agitation.

“Why didn’t PM Modi talk to Manoj Jarange on phone while busy campaigning?” Raut’s question

Sanjay Raut, MP of Shiv Sena, has once again raised questions about the BJP’s handling of the Maratha reservation movement. While Maharashtra grapples with the issue, Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah are immersed in their election campaigns. The responsibility to resolve the Maratha reservation issue falls on the Central government. However, critics like Sanjay Raut question whether Prime Minister Modi found the time to speak with Manoj Jarange Patil over the phone amid their campaign commitments.

A State Delegation to Meet Hunger Striker Manoj Jarange Patil

In a bid to persuade Manoj Jarange Patil to end his hunger strike and provide the state government with more time to address the Maratha reservation issue, a state government delegation is set to visit Antarwali Sarati on Thursday. This delegation comprises Atul Save and Uday Samant. Before their departure, both leaders visited the Varsha Bungalow to meet with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Chief Minister is likely to engage in a telephonic discussion with Manoj Jarange Patil before the delegation arrives at Antarwali Sarati. During this conversation, they may discuss the significance of the Government Resolution (GR) or the letter regarding the Maratha reservation. The outcome of this meeting may offer insight into the future direction of the Maratha reservation movement.
